East African Shea Butter (Vitellaria nilotica) is an excellent moisturizer that absorbs quickly into the skin and is non- comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores). It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic and skin healing properties, and nourishes skin and hair with Vitamins A, E and F. This is a raw, natural, USDA certified organic product that has not been refined with chemical solvents.
All shea butters are not the same. There are two main varieties of shea nut, West African shea (Vitellaria paradoxa) and East African shea (Vitellaria nilotica). The majority of shea butters on the market are harvested from the paradoxa species found on the dry savannah belt of West and Central Africa.
The rarer, nilotica species of East African shea is found only in the savannahs of Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan. Nilotica has a milder scent, a lower melting point (77 - 86 degrees F) and has a higher percentage (50 – 60% for nilotica vs. 30 - 45% for paradoxa) of the skin penetration enhancer, oleic acid. Practically, this means that nilotica is more easily incorporated into cosmetic formulations without further processing, has a softer, smoother quality at room temperature, melts when applied to the body and is more readily absorbed by skin and hair.
Our Ugandan Nilotia shea butter is of the highest quality and is produced in a socially responsible manner. Shea nuts are cleaned, washed, and dried before being cold pressed in the factory using a mechanical oil screw press.
Our Oil Mill is ISO-9001 certified, and has been processing shea nuts and other oil seeds in Northern Uganda for over fifteen years.
In addition to our USDA/Ecocert 100% Organic certifications, we are proud to announce that Fair Trade certification is currently in process

Vitellaria Nilotica - Nature's unique and rare gift
Our oil mills pay cash and fair prices for shea nuts from farmer-gatherers in the local community. Many of these farmers are women who were displaced from their homes during years of conflict in the region and income from shea nuts continues to help to rebuild many communities.
The company contributes part of its manufacturing proceeds for local community development projects, including providing education and training on harvesting practices for environmental conservation, paying school fees for orphaned children and contributing to medicine and local health care for the poor in Northern Uganda.
Our Fair Trade Certification is in process.....
